The Eco-Schools programme is an international programme of the Foundation for Environmental Education FEE that was developed to support environmental learning in the classroom. The programme is aimed at creating awareness and action around environmental sustainability in schools.

Eco flag for schools. It clearly demonstrates that their hard work is appreciated and it provides them with the confidence and motivation to continue actively engaging with environmental issues now and throughout their lifetimes. For NMS this is the 5th consecutive. The application for a Green Flag Award is done solely online to ensure that you provide sufficient evidence for each of the Seven Elements.
Eco-Schools is the largest sustainable schools programme in the world designed to encourage whole-school action on sustainable development education issues. Your Eco-Code is also displayed around the school for example in classrooms school halls and even the toilets. Through Eco-Schools young people have a say in the environmental management policies of their school and the prestige which comes with being awarded a Green Flag.
Your Eco-Code is displayed on the Eco-Board. There are two suggested deadlines this year one for renewals and one for new Green Flags. The attribution of the Green Flag to FCT NOVA for the first time means that together with NOVA FCSH and NOVA Medical School again distinguished there are three NOVA institutions this year recognized for their good environmental practices.
After completing the seven step process schools can then apply for Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation which recognises rewards and celebrates the environmental achievements of young people. The Eco-Schools programme is based on a set of Seven Elements. Schools must conduct the Environmental Review on an annual basis for all eleven topics but they are then free to select which of these they will focus on tackling more topics for each successive Green Flag.

The school will also be awarded a certificate and the permission to jointly use the official WWF logo and the Green Flag on its letterhead and other school material.
Once awarded the school can display the Green Flag a prestigious internationally recognized and respected eco-label of school performance in its foyer hall or on a flagpole. Any year group that you think would be enthusiastic and willing to go into assemblies to spread the word can form an effective team. Registered Eco-Schools may submit or renew an application for a Green Flag Award through their school dashboard.
The Eco-Schools programme consists of three structural elements – The Seven Steps Framework the Eco-Schools Themes and Assessment for the Green Flag. These schools are symbolically assigned the Green Eco-School Flag. A school is considered a permanent Eco-School once it has gained its fourth Green Flag Award at which point sustainability has been fully woven into the fabric of the schools culture.
As with the other Eco-Schools flags the core design features the Eco-Schools logo in a white circle on a green field. Set up an Eco-team. Eco-Schools was founded in 1994 operates in 67. Eco-Schools is the largest global sustainable schools programme it starts in the classroom and expands to the community by engaging the next generation in action-based learning. Upon logging in to your Eco-Schools account you will also have access to the Eco-Schools logo to use on your schools website or letter-headed paper.
There is an agreement on an environmental statement for your school drawn up by pupils. Applying for an Eco-Schools Green Flag is the perfect way to acknowledge reward and celebrate the ecological achievements of young people. Draw up an Action Plan.
To be successful the programme requires support from school leaders and the Board. Your school may already be registered 11672 schools in the UK have an Eco-Schools award but less than 10 of those have been awarded a Green Flag. Each Element builds the framework of our Award Criteria.
Eco-Schools NI currently offers a choice of eleven topics. The programme is active in 68 countries and 59 000 schools around the world and has been implemented in South Africa since 2003 by WESSA. The Green Flag Award is based on the Seven Elements the core of the Eco-Schools programme in every participating country.
As always you can submit your Green Flag application at any time of the year but these are the deadlines for a guaranteed assessment in the 202021 school year schools applying after these dates might not be assessed by the end of June. Once your school has paid the invoice the Eco-Schools team will send your Eco-Schools Green Flag certificate and letter containing any requirements to work on in the future. These recommendations are only valid for assessments taking place from September 2020 to December 2021.
